When Your Body Starts Saying “No”
Sometimes the changes in our bodies are subtle.
A cough that won’t go away after certain meals.
A feeling of tightness in your throat.
Fatigue that lingers longer than it should.
In this episode of the Inspired Caring podcast, I had a conversation with my mom about her experience developing food sensitivities in her 60s, something she never struggled with earlier in life.
What stood out most wasn’t just the list of foods she had to eliminate. It was the persistence. The appointments. The scopes. The medication trials. And eventually, the realization that she had to begin paying close attention to how her body responded with every meal.
As caregivers, we often focus so much on someone else’s health that we ignore our own.
But your body speaks. And it’s worth listening.
✨ A Quote to Sit With
“If something feels off, pay attention.”
You don’t have to dismiss symptoms just because they don’t show up clearly on a lab test. Sometimes awareness and observation are the beginning of clarity.
🧠A Helpful Resource
If you or someone you care for is experiencing unexplained symptoms after eating, consider:
-
Keeping a simple food and symptom journal
-
Reviewing ingredient labels carefully (especially preservatives and additives)
-
Asking your physician about allergy testing or a referral to a specialist
-
Seeking a second opinion if something doesn’t feel resolved
You don’t have to overhaul everything overnight. Start with awareness.

A — Assess
This episode connects beautifully with Assess in The C.A.R.I.N.G. Framework ©.
Assessment doesn’t only apply to our loved ones. It applies to us.
Pause and gently reflect:
-
How do I feel after I eat certain foods?
-
Have I normalized discomfort?
-
Am I ignoring signals because I’m busy caring for someone else?
-
What small change could I experiment with this week?
Your health is not separate from your caregiving. It supports it.
