Releasing the Weight of Guilt

In this episode of the Inspired Caring podcast, I shared a personal experience of visiting my mother-in-law and noticing how quickly guilt can take hold, even in the first few moments.
It didn’t come from something I had done wrong.
It came from a thought.
A thought about what I could be doing more of.
And before I even had time to settle into the visit, the feeling of guilt was already shaping the experience.
This is something many caregivers carry.
Quietly. Repeatedly.
✨ A Quote to Sit With

There is so much already being asked of you.
Adding guilt on top of that does not make you a better caregiver.
It only makes the experience heavier.
Caregivers are the only people I know who bend over backwards, constantly show up, give everything of themselves - even to their own detriment, and then feel guilty about it.
🧭 A Helpful Resource
If guilt has been showing up for you, you might try:
- Noticing the thought that is creating the feeling
- Asking yourself "where did that thought come from?" and if that thought is helping you move forward
- Shifting your focus to what you can do next
- Taking one small, intentional action instead of staying in the feeling
Guilt often keeps you stuck. It frequently comes from a personal definition of what it means to be good, a "good" daughter or a "good" spouse/partner. Who determined what is good?
Action, even a small step, can help you move forward.
🌿 The C.A.R.I.N.G. Framework © Reflection

When guilt is present, it can cloud your ability to see what truly matters.
The C.A.R.I.N.G. Framework © invites you to return to your intention.
You might reflect on:
- What is my definition of "good"
- What is my intention for how I show up today
- What would feel meaningful in this moment
- What is one way I can act from care instead of pressure
Intentions create direction.
They help you move forward with clarity, rather than weight.
