Surviving the Whirlwind
Life sometimes feels like a whirlwind.
A high school graduation filled with pride and emotion.
A medical crisis.
Hospital stays.
Rehabilitation.
A transition into assisted living.
Life doesn’t pause when caregiving intensifies...it layers. And sometimes that layering stretches us beyond what feels sustainable.
In this episode, I shared a little bit about the "whirlwind" that my family and I went through in 2021, and what I leaned on to get through it.
When everything feels urgent, overwhelming, and emotionally charged, we don’t rise to the occasion. We fall back on our habits.
And during this season, I was incredibly grateful for the simple routines already in place.
✨ A Quote to Sit With
“When life feels chaotic, let your habits carry you.”
You don’t have to solve everything in the middle of a storm. Sometimes it’s enough to simplify and let the basics support you.
🧠A Helpful Resource
If you’re currently in a caregiving whirlwind, consider identifying three routines you can rely on:
-
A simple breakfast you don’t have to think about
-
A go-to outfit for hospital days or appointments
-
A daily walk, stretch, or moment of fresh air
-
A short morning reading or meditation practice
These small anchors reduce decision fatigue. And when your emotional bandwidth is stretched, that matters.
You may not be able to control the medical outcomes or the timing of transitions. But you can reduce the number of daily choices you have to make.

G — Grounding
This episode connects deeply with Grounding in The C.A.R.I.N.G. Framework ©.
When life speeds up, grounding becomes essential.
Ask yourself:
-
What habits are already supporting me?
-
Where can I simplify instead of complicate?
-
What can I put on autopilot right now?
-
What helps me feel centered when everything else feels uncertain?
Grounding doesn’t eliminate the whirlwind. It steadies you inside of it.
